Since the onset of the Hanfu movement around the year 2003, the mamianqun has undergone various modifications and adaptations by Chinese Hanfu designers and enthusiasts based on Ming dynasty design. These adaptations include shorter lengths such as above the knee, mid-calf, and ankle-length, and versions with added features like pockets.

In some cases, Hanfu enthusiasts combine the mamianqun with modern garments like T-shirts or blouses, deviating from the traditional full traditional attire, which tends to be more formal in appearance.
